On one hand metallics can be thought of as harsh, hard, immovable. With today's fall trends these soft and sultry metallic fabrics are anything but harsh. This season designers put metallics in a feminine form.
Carlos Miele provides femininity and flow with this beautiful silvery dress with wavy lines and sleek fit. The lines add length and bring the eye up and down...good for a slimming look, versus side-to-side lines.
While I don't have the need for such a fabulous gown in my immediate future, the look serves as a great piece of inspiration when looking for ways to put metallic in my fall wardrobe.
Another silver look I love is in this Hilary Radley trench at Nordstroms for $148. It has a great embossed metallic-croc print and belted waist. Great for looking chic and keeping dry. This look, as is, is quite fantastic. Definitely add a handbag with a bold color.
Watch when shopping for a trench that you choose only one dramatic feature. If it has a large collar or wide lapel, you don't also want a wide belt with some sort of crazy buckle/loop. Dramatic collar? Simple belt, and vice-versa
This metallic jacket by St. John Sport is a fabulous piece with versatility. Remove the dyed raccoon collar and you're left with a more utilitarian look that is chic in every way. $895 at NiemanMarcus.com
DKNYC put out this adorable pleated skirt in metallic jacquard. This pure silk number has an invisible side zipper and a look that is so "in". $119 at Bloomingdales.com.
Remember to always take baby-steps into the new trends. No need to go overboard with a metallic jacket, metallic skirt, metallic boots and metallic bag. You are going for "babe" not "beacon".
Choose one new metallic item (ok, or two or three) and work it into your current wardrobe. You'll quickly get the hang of it and will have a credit card bill to prove it.
